F.H. King

F.H. King Students for Sustainable Agriculture is a student garden organization based out of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Our mission is to establish the relationship between land, food, and the UW-Madison campus community as well as the surrounding Madison community through our garden workshops and shared learning experiences.

Slow Food

Slow Food USA is a part of the global Slow Food network of over 100,000 members in more than 150 countries. Through a vast volunteer network of local chapters, youth, and food communities, we link the pleasures of the table with a commitment to protect the community, culture, knowledge, and environment that make this pleasure possible. Our mission as an international grassroots membership organization is good, clean, and fair food for all.

Children’s Museum

We take play very seriously by engaging, challenging, and inspiring every visitor who comes through the Madison Children’s Museum doors. The dedicated staff drives our mission by creating custom-crafted, award-winning exhibits; providing programming that brings all ages together; and focusing on sustainability. We’re also committed to assistance programs that allow all children to enjoy our learning playground.

WisPRIG

WISPIRG is a consumer group that stands up to powerful interests whenever they threaten our health and safety, our financial security, or our right to fully participate in our democratic society. With public debate around important issues often dominated by special interests pursuing their own narrow agendas, the WISPIRG offers an independent voice that works on behalf of the public interest. The WISPIRG works to protect consumers and promote good government. We investigate problems, craft solutions, educate the public, and offer citizens meaningful opportunities for civic participation.

USPIRG

U.S. PIRG has open positions for campus organizers and U.S. PIRG fellows. Campus organizers work on three to six campaigns in a semester, such as working to pass clean energy legislation, increasing youth voter turnout on campus, fighting hunger and homelessness in the local community, and other important public interest campaigns. U.S. PIRG fellows work closely with experienced advocates and organizers, and learn to make the case for reform through targeted research, coalition building, outreach to citizen activists and the media, and direct lobbying of decision-makers. 

REAP

REAP Food Group is a nonprofit organization in Madison, WI, that connects producers, consumers, businesses, and organizations to grow a healthful, just, and sustainable local food system in Southern Wisconsin. For more than 19 years, REAP Food Group has been working throughout Southern Wisconsin to build and sustain a local food system that supports small family farms and locally owned businesses, promotes sustainable practices, and provides access to fresh, healthy food for the entire community.

Second Harvest

Since 1986 Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin has put more than 100 million meals on the tables of the 1 in 8 who are facing hunger in southwestern Wisconsin. We work together with hundreds of local hunger-relief charities to provide the peace-of-mind people get when they know they have enough food. We are also a member of Feeding America, a nationwide network of member food banks and the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization.

Wisconsin Environment

Wisconsin Environment is a statewide, citizen-based environmental advocacy organization. We focus exclusively on protecting Wisconsin’s air, water, and open spaces. We speak out and take action at the local, state, and national levels to improve the quality of our environment and our lives.

Mindfulness for the People

Mindfulness for the People LLC is a training and consulting start-up developed by clinicians, research scientists, and practitioners of color. We design and implement culturally relevant mindfulness training for people of color. We also work with clients to transform existing mindfulness initiatives to honor the needs of communities of color.

Goodman Center

The Goodman Community Center is committed to being a safe and welcoming place for our whole community. We call the values we teach and aspire to every day “Goodmanship” — trust, responsibility, respect, fairness, caring and community. Our vision is a community that’s thriving because everyone is valued and has the resources they need to succeed.

MACSAC

We are a coalition of people invested in the vitality and strength of our community. Through education, outreach, community building, and resource sharing, we are working to raise the bar on the quality and accessibility of CSA shares in our region. We envision a future where Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is the backbone of a strong local food system; where all families have access to locally produced, organic food and have strong connections to their farms, food, and community.

Rooted

Rooted is a nonprofit organization that connects people to nature and local food. Through hands-on education, children and adults learn gardening, urban farming, healthy eating, and natural areas restoration. We are dedicated to developing, managing, and stewarding Troy Gardens. On 26-acres of urban property, Troy Gardens integrates community gardens, an organic farm, and restored prairie and woodlands.

Sierra Club

The Sierra Club is the nation’s largest and most influential grassroots environmental organization. Our successes range from protecting millions of acres of wilderness to helping pass the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, and Endangered Species Act. More recently, we’ve made history by leading the charge to move away from the dirty fossil fuels that cause climate disruption and toward a clean energy economy.

Midwest Environmental Advocates

Midwest Environmental Advocates is the first and only non-profit environmental law center in Wisconsin. The mission of Midwest Environmental Advocates is to provide high-quality legal services that support a multicultural, grassroots social movement; build local leadership, and implement innovative solutions to environmental problems.

Growing Power

Growing Power is a national nonprofit organization and land trust supporting people from diverse backgrounds, and the environments in which they live, by helping to provide equal access to healthy, high-quality, safe and affordable food for people in all communities.

Meadowood Neighborhood Center

Meadowood Neighborhood Center provides a safe, supervised place for youth during afterschool and evening hours, for neighbors to socialize, and space for MSCR programs such as arts, fitness and much more.

Community Shares

Community Shares of Wisconsin (CSW)—together with its donors and member nonprofits—addresses social, economic, and environmental problems through grassroots activities, advocacy, research, and public education

Centro Hispanics

Centro Hispano works to improve the quality of life for Latinos and others living in Dane County by empowering youth, strengthening families, and engaging the community. Our goal is to see Latino youth prepared to succeed in life by finishing high school, being prepared for post-secondary education and engaging positively in their communities.

Urban League

The Urban League of Greater Madison is committed to transforming Dane County into the best place in the Midwest for ALL citizens to live, learn, and work. The organization is working to make this vision a reality through a comprehensive strategic empowerment agenda that includes programs, services, advocacy, partnerships, and coalition building.

Summer Affirmative Action Internship Program

The Summer Affirmative Action Internship Program (SAAIP) is an internship program offered by the State of Wisconsin. SAAIP provides racial/ethnic minorities, female students, and student with disabilities an opportunity to work in a professional work environment within the Wisconsin state government.

Aldo Leopold Nature Center

Aldo Leopold Nature Center (ALNC) is a private, not-for-profit educational organization dedicated to promoting the conservation ethic of Aldo Leopold through environmental education and awareness. ALNC provides hands-on environmental programming for school children and their families, reaching more than 40,000 people annually.

City of Madison

The City of Madison’s Affirmative Action Division, in concert with City Managers, sponsors internships to attract members of Affirmative Action target groups who are engaged in college level studies compatible with a Public Administration career track. Internship consideration will also be given for individuals who have experienced a period of long-term unemployment or underemployment. Approval will be determined on a case-by-case basis by the Director of the Department of Civil Rights. The individuals that are selected will be hired as City employees in the hourly classification of Management Intern 1.

NOAA Office of Education Undergraduate Student Scholarship Programs

Undergraduate scholars are U.S. citizens, full-time undergraduate students majoring in NOAA-related disciplines, including, but not limited to, oceanic, environmental, and atmospheric sciences, mathematics, engineering, remote sensing technology, physical and social sciences including, geography, physics, hydrology, or teacher education that support NOAA’s programs and mission. The Scholarship recipients receive an OEd funded award that includes academic assistance, a 10-week paid internship, housing assistance, conference travel and round-trip travel to the internship site. The NOAA Oed Undergraduate Scholarship Programs provide NOAA with a valuable mechanism to achieve its vision, mission, and goals of the NOAA Strategic Plan. The Undergraduate Scholarship Programs supports the Agency’s cross-cutting priorities of “promoting environmental literacy” and “developing, valuing, and sustaining a world-class workforce.”
