Students have access to multiple sources of advising once they declare the major. Megan Banaszak advises students on the technical aspects of the major. She helps students plan their class schedule, makes sure they’re on schedule to graduate and discusses general questions about the major. Students will also be assigned a faculty mentor based on academic and professional interests. Faculty mentors can help students find internship opportunities and discuss career aspirations. Professor Samer Alatout is the Director of Undergraduate Studies and is available to meet with students to help them through their journey in the Department of Community and Environmental Sociology. UW Libraries
There are 34 libraries across UW-Madison and students have access to hundreds of catalogs, databases, and archives online and in-person. Students can Ask a Librarian, use space and equipment to study, and access research and instructional support.
GUTS Tutoring
The Greater University Tutoring Service (GUTS) is a student-run tutoring service that provides academic, language, and study skill support services taught and facilitated by students, for all UW-Madison students. All of our services are free and easy to register.
Instructor’s Office Hours
Your instructors and teaching assistants (TAs) associated with your course are available to help you! Depending on the course, they will have either office hours or staff a Help Desk. Details are available from your course instructor or TA on where and when Help Desk/office hours are located.
